Selection poser for Pilgrims ahead of semi-final clash

Boston United's management team will assess their walking wounded before deciding whether to rest key players in tomorrow's UniBond Challenge Cup semi-final at Curzon Ashton.

Joint-manager Rob Scott says the Pilgrims are nursing "some bumps and bruises" following Tuesday night's epic 2-1 victory at UniBond Premier Division promotion rivals Retford United.

Boston rested Shaun Pearson, Danny Davidson and Marc Newsham for last Saturday's 4-1 win at league whipping boys Durham City.

And the ploy did the trick as defender Pearson returned to head the winning goal at Cannon Park while Davidson was outstanding up front.

"There were a few bumps and bruises because it was a very physical encounter," admitted Scott.

"We've been monitoring that and we'll make a decision on Saturday."

However, Scott and fellow boss Paul Hurst are desperate to win the competition after being losing finalists with former club Ilkeston last season.

And Scott insists his players will not relax against UniBond Division One (North) side Curzon, either.

"We got to the final last year and lost in extra-time, which was disappointing," recalled Scott. "We want to progress as much as possible.

"It's a fine line between too many games and being successful, but we want to win all the games we're put in for.

"The players won't allow themselves to relax. They wouldn't allow us to go into the game with that attitude and that's credit to them."
