Lincolnshire Echo exclusive: Brian Gilmour set to become Lincoln City's third signing of the week

Friday, November 27, 2009, 06:30

Lincoln City manager Chris Sutton looks set to increase his attacking firepower by closing in on a move for striker Brian Gilmour.

The Echo understands the former Rangers forward, who is a free agent, is close to signing a short-term contract having enjoyed a successful trial spell.

The 22-year-old had been playing football in Finland for FC Haka, but left in May and had recently had a trial with Championship outfit Blackpool.

The former Scotland youth international looks set to become Sutton's third signing of the week after Notts County forward Delroy Facey and Aston Villa midfielder Chris Herd both signed one-month loan deals yesterday.

Sutton has been forced to move for the trio to help cope with an injury crisis that could deprive his team of up to seven players for tomorrow's FA Cup second-round tie at Northwich.

Paul Green, Sergio Torres, Adam Watts, Anthony Pulis, Stefan Oakes, Paul Connor and Lenell John-Lewis are all expected to miss the clash.

It means Gilmour and Herd look set to make their debuts, but Facey is cup tied, and will make his bow against Port Vale in League Two next Tuesday.

Speaking on Herd's arrival yesterday, Sutton said it would help ease the burden of having so many players on the treatment table.

"His arrival has bailed us out somewhat, because he is right-sided and that is an area that is obviously an issue," he said. "Before Flash's (Michael Gordon's) arrival we had been putting square pegs in round holes so we are still light on cover in that area.

"But Chris is comfortable playing that position and also is just as at ease playing in the centre of midfield."
