Burch: I'm not going anywhere

Friday, February 05, 2010, 06:30

Rob Burch has moved to ease the increasing anxiety that he is set to leave Lincoln City as the goalkeeper denied claims he told supporters his departure is imminent.

The former Tottenham stopper's future has been subject to much speculation in the last 72 hours amid reports he told fans he was quitting after Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Hereford.

But Burch today hit back at the gossipmongers who have fuelled a hive of activity on various internet message-boards declaring the rumours were "complete nonsense".

And the 26-year-old assured supporters he was not about to ditch the Imps and stressed he was fully concentrating on tomorrow's League Two trip to Chesterfield.

"I've heard what has been said, but there's absolutely no truth in it and it's complete nonsense," he said.

"It's amazing what people want to hear, but I can assure everybody that I would never say anything like that as the people who know me would testify.

"I did go over to the fans at the end of the game and I had a pair of gloves that were old and knew I would be replacing so I wanted to give them away.

"They had travelled a long way and it was not the best result or performance. So as I threw the gloves to the 10 to 15 fans who were still there, I just said 'I'm sorry'.

"All I did was apologise for the result nothing more so you can imagine I'm a little surprised at what's followed in the last couple of days because I'm not going anywhere."
