Nel laments Spa's lack of success with the ball
Spa lie sixth in the division as they head into a double header of matches this weekend. On Saturday they welcome Grimsby Town and on Monday they travel to Louth.
Woodhall can boast the two highest-scoring batsmen in the league in Nel and his opening partner Andrew Crook. However, Nel believes it is the bowling performances of the side which have denied them more success.
"I think we're the best team in the league based on recent performances. We've just been too inconsistent throughout the season, and that's why we're only sixth," said the South African.
"Every team needs to have good batting and good bowling. We've got one of the best batting line-ups in the league but we're just missing that crucial strike bowler.
"We've been able to get the big scores on the board but we've struggled to skittle teams over. I do think we're the second best team in the league."
Nel and his Woodhall Spa team-mates will have the perfect opportunity to test out his lofty claims as they take on Grimsby and Louth, who are placed fourth and third respectively, this weekend.
Nel, who has scored 753 runs this season, hit a half-century against Grimsby and a century against Louth in their last meetings. However, Nel has played down the importance of his past performances.
"I don't think about the past. You have to play what's in front of you on the day because so many things change," he said.
"I like to take each game as it comes. I've been happy with my form and I'll just be looking at putting a big score on the board."
Woodhall's overseas player has heaped praise upon this weekend's opponents who have both registered good results in past weeks.
"I've only played Grimsby once but they looked a handy outfit. They can beat anyone on their day, they're a side I've always rated,"said Nel.
"Louth are also ones to watch, They're not third in the league for no reason. They'll give us a great test on Monday."
