Cricketer Andy Carter tipped for England future

Rising cricket star Andy Carter has been tipped to play for England after being earmarked as one of the top young players in the country.

The Bardney bowler, who plays for Nottinghamshire, is one of just 41 players to have been selected for this winter's England Performance Programme.

As part of the intensive training programme, Carter will journey to South Africa where he will receive coaching from the likes of fast bowling legend Allan Donald and former England Test skipper Graham Gooch.

Carter (right) will also train alongside current England players Ian Bell and Notts team-mate Ryan Sidebottom.

The 41 young players have been divided into three groups – A, B and C – with 21-year-old Carter in Group C, for players with limited first-class experience.

Lincolnshire director of cricket Mark Fell, who played a key role in Carter's development, says the former Lincs paceman has all the attributes to reach the top of the game.

"The C group is for players who they think could go on and play for England in five, six, seven years time," said Fell.

"He fully deserves this and it wouldn't surprise me if he goes on to play for England one day, provided things go his way and he has a bit of luck.

"He's got all the attributes. In this country we like tall, fast bowlers, but there aren't many of them around at the moment.

"He'll put the work in, too, don't worry about that. He's got a great attitude."
