Contributor Friday October 26, 2007I can't help it, Rafa, but I'm losing faith
Rafa the gaffer is having a laugh if he reckons this squad rotation malarkey is going to clinch Liverpool the Premiership title this season. The bloke has got delusions of grandeur I say, because at this rate, the only he thing is going to be renowned for in his tenure is his meddles rather than his medals. He's not only testing my patience, he's also testing my sanity. For the evidence, just ask the wife who witnessed an expletive-laden assault at the TV following our 2-1 defeat at Besiktas on Wednesday. I had well and truly lost it to the point where I was foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog not helped by seeing the bambi-legged Ryan Babel misplace yet another five-yard pass. I can usually keep my cool when watching the Reds, and I've been watching them for a long time. Since I was seven, in fact, when I had the full grey Candy kit, bought by my grandparents one Xmas. I remember the days when Elton Welsby used to present "The Big Match" and I remember when John Barnes used to beat six players and stick the ball in the top corner. They were the days when we conquered everyone, the Man Utds, the Chelseas and the Gooners. They were the days we became the most decorated club in English history. Not any more though and, to be quite honest, I don't see us regaining our position as England's best club for some time. Like every Liverpool fan, when we won the Champions League in 2005, I honestly believed Rafa would go on and lead us to greatness. But the following seasons since that triumph in Istanbul have been disappointing and this one is treading a similar path. Now some will say, but you are unbeaten in the Premiership, how can you be unhappy with that? But the signs are this season is going to end in another futile attempt at trying to wrestle the top trophy back to Anfield. I would love to be proved wrong, but I don't think I will, especially when the manager changes the team more times than Djibril Cisse gets his hair cut. So Rafa, continuity is key not only to your title dreams, but also my faith in your ability to end 17 years of misery. POSTED BY LEIGH_CURTIS AT 11:38 AM
