Lee Kerry wins Saturday League series event amid difficult conditions

Thursday, February 11, 2010, 06:30

The seventh match in the 10-match Spro Saturday League series took place on Saturday and a field of nearly 40 anglers took part.

The Fossdyke Canal has been out of sorts for one reason or another this year and, once again, on Saturday the canal did not fish to its true potential.

After heavy rain the previous day, the canal was carrying excessive colour which, going on previous matches, made the anglers a little wary of what to expect.

These conditions in previous rounds saw the elusive skimmers and bream decide to feed and things were no different this week.

While the winning results look reasonable on paper, there were a lot of anglers who struggled to catch fish and there were noted angers who even failed to get a bite in five hours from what would be classed as a good peg.

It was Preston/Maver Barnsley ace Lee Kerry who took the honours. Lee drew at peg 12 and fished on pinkie over a bed of joker at 11 metres.

Lee had a few small fish but also managed to find five bream up to 3lb and this secured a clear victory on the day with a winning weight of 11lb 8oz. Lee's luck didn't end there as on the day, peg 12 had been drawn as the "Golden Peg".

This added another £295. to Lee's winning purse.

Craig Crow, of Boston, also found the bream feeding in his swim and he finished in second place. Craig drew at peg 10 and fished at 11 metres and had a few bits on bloodworm before landing two decent bream. He also had a couple of perch to 1½ lb in his weight of 9lb 10oz.

Phil Turner, of Worksop, kept up his recent good form by finishing in third place. Phil drew at peg 55 and after catching a few small fish on bloodworm, swapped to lobworm at 16 metres and found seven perch, the biggest being 1 ½ lb, to finish with a weight of 9lb 7oz.

Fourth on the day was Keith Clifton (Garbolino/Harrisons Lincs County) with 6lb 10oz from peg 68 and fifth place was Dean Guess of Fox Match Trentman from peg 59 with 6lb 1oz.

With two rounds remaining it is still Chris Jenkinson (Van Den Eynde) who is leading the field with 45 points and the current Pairs Completion leaders are Chris Jenkinson and Alan Henry (SPRO Lincoln Whisby) with 40 points.
